Downtown Master Plan


Jacksonville's Downtown Master Plan, "Celebrating the River: A Plan for Downtown Jacksonville," was officially approved in 2000 by Jacksonville City Council.  The plan designates ten districts within the boundaries of Downtown, and outlines urban design and streetscape guidelines.

In the fall of 2006, the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission (JEDC) continued its proactive approach to downtown development by establishing four task forces to recommend action steps to make Downtown Jacksonville the place to be in Northeast Florida.

Downtown Zoning Overlay

The Downtown Zoning Overlay was created to promote and encourage the revitalization and growth of Downtown Jacksonville.  As recommended by the Master Plan, Downtown should be a desirable high density, mixed-use area that maximizes all of its available resources, insures compatibility between new and existing uses, and promotes well-planned development that is consistent with the traditional urban context.

Downtown Sign Ordinance

The Downtown Sign Ordinance was created to encourage pedestrian-scale urban-oriented signage appropriate for Downtown Jacksonville.
