Demonstration of New Segways
WHAT: The Downtown Ambassador program will celebrate its 7th Anniversary with an appreciation ceremony for the Ambassador team in Hemming Plaza. During the past seven years, the program has logged an average of 25,000 hours per year on the sidewalks and assisted more than 20,000 people annually with information on events, parking, and directions while working with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to deter nuisance activity and the City of Jacksonville to report and resolve cleanliness and safety issues in Downtown. The Downtown Ambassador program currently deploys Ambassadors on foot and bike patrols. Downtown Vision, Inc. has purchased two Segways to be used by the Downtown Ambassadors to increase mobility and visibility. The Segways run on electricity and are an environmentally friendly form of alternative transportation. The Segways will be used to expand the efficiency of the Downtown Ambassador program by allowing the team leaders to cover patrols of key Downtown areas, such as the Northbank Riverwalk, more frequently. Riding 8” above the ground will improve their ability to assist with hospitality requests by making them more visible to pedestrians.
